Job Description

  • Work with engineering, commodity managers, supplier development engineers, program managers, to ensure supplier performance and deliverables are met and to identify cost and timing issues and resolve them.
  • Following selection, participate in the development and launch of new suppliers and conduct negotiations for/with the commodity team.
  • Update and accurately maintain databases internal for all new program launches.
  • Ensure sourcing activity is in line with cost targets and Purchasing processes (global bidder's list), driving the coordination of commodity strategies with the goals of the individual programs.
  • Facilitate cross-functional meeting including suppliers to improve program cost and delivery through design and development. Assist in strategic evaluation of suppliers by conducting research, analysis and/or participating in the selection process.
  • Coordinate / lead efforts to identify and implement cost savings opportunities and meet assigned cost targets in the area of engineering changes, lean activities and re-sourcing
  • Representative for Purchasing in Customer Quote process, including bill of material cost
    development and quotes that are aligned with organizational targets
  • Represent Purchasing at a variety of reviews related to program launch (sourcing committee, design
    review, launch readiness review, program review, etc.).

The Successful Applicant

  • Purchasing in Automotive sector is a must
  • 5 + years of experience within direct and project purchasing ( project buyer, project coordinator positions, junior purchasing managers)
  • experience negotiating with suppliers and managing the supply base post-negotiations
  • prior purchasing experience involving spend in excess of $50 million
  • demonstrated performance in working cross-functionally and/or within a matrixed organization and working independently to obtain results
  • experience preparing and delivering presentations to senior management as well as experience presenting information to suppliers and internal customers
  • very strong leadership skills
  • Able to independently troubleshoot issues/concerns and determine course of action
  • High level of independent judgment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and analytical skills

Preferred Qualifications/Skills include

  • Recent completion of negotiations training.
  • Certification as Six Sigma Greenbelt/Blackbelt, or comparable improvement methodology
